Interceptor (Novartis) is a pill that you give to your dog or cat once a month to help prevent or control heartworms, hookworms, roundworms and whipworms.  It comes as chewable tablet with an artificial beef flavor.

Interceptor is prescribed by your vet and can be given to your dog or cat. Your dog must weigh a minimum of 2 pounds and be over 4 weeks old. Your cat must weight a minimum of 1.5 pounds and be over 6 weeks old.

Interceptor should be given to your cat or dog exactly how your vet tells you to.  Store the medicine at room temperature and keep it away from children and pets.  Remember, humans can get hookworm from their pet so it’s really important to maintain good hygiene.

Possible (but rare) side effects of Interceptor include:

  • Depression
  • Drowsiness
  • Vomiting, loss of appetite, hiarrhea
  • seizures
  • weakness
  • drooling

Don’t give your pet Interceptor if you’re already giving another heartworm medication.
